At the last minute, I picked up my journal and stashed it into my bag and brought it to the office today. I've done this a few times before and I end up just lugging it back home without having written anything in it.

Today was different.

I had some time to kill this afternoon while waiting for our graphics artist to render some slides for a presentation. Without even thinking about it much, I pulled out my journal and flipped it open to the last page that had anything in it --- which is just around 3 pages from the beginning of the book.

I had stuck a Cupcakes sticker there last Sunday, after buying three cupcakes by Sonja in Serendra. Yes, yes, I got curious about it.

Before I knew it, I was drawing cupcakes on the page. I filled in the opposite page, as well as the next spread.

I missed drawing.

New journal from evaluna (a christmas/bday present). Scribbled on a page while waiting for my taping to start this morning. In my favorite spot to journal, a coffeeshop, naturally. :P Imagine that, a non-coffee drinker always in a coffeeshop.

I got a new notebook which I was planning to use for work, but decided to use for personal stuff. Will try to journal using ruled pages. Doesn't look so bad. Haven't drawn in a while. Here's a lady at the coffee shop buying a frap. The first thing I drew in this picture was the strap of her bag. Is that a weird place to start? Well, it worked anyway. I missed this.

So, I did watch Totoro again for the nth time. I prepared some cards for mailing tomorrow (there they are now looking really nice on my desk), and made some new cards (above).

I don't think I'll be trading those, though. Those are portraits of my friends, and I'm kinda attached to them. Maybe I'll eventually trade them (the cards, of course) but not just yet.

Self-portrait drawn on an envelope where I keep a couple of letters. My hair is longer now and I like to keep it up and away from my face with a claw clip. Spending the weekend alone with my new Dragonology book. Maybe I'll watch Totoro for the nth time. Maybe I'll make new ATCs. Maybe I'll just sleep. All these options, they all sound good to me.

I recently got into making and trading ATCs (artist trading cards) and I wanted to find a style that was more cutesy than my usual 'can't-really-draw-straight-and-neat-nor-make-exact-copies' style. And I discovered that stick-figures were fun and a half!

I got the inspiration from browsing Kim's Suitcase's blog. Her gallery of ATCs on Flickr is wonderful. =)

Here's a page from my journal, made today at Starbucks, an hour before I had to meet my crew for a shoot. I was facing this table where two gents were having their afternoon coffee. Outside, it was a blustery day.

The view from the new office. The production house where I'm currently doing a project just moved to a new office. It has glass panels all around. And this is what sits on the other side of one of the walls. I drew it while waiting for our host to arrive to voice the episode; I was hanging out on the conference table -- a huge wooden table that's so comfy to draw on, while my colleague was outside having a smoke.

I like the new office. The glass walls just took a little getting used to. On the first few days, people would arrive all excited and happy to be in the new office, waving to everyone from outside since they were in full view, and walk into walls. It's a little painful and funny.

We've put tape on the walls saying "glass" and we'll keep them there until the designers come to put the real designs on the glass.

I had editing yesterday for one of the shows I produce for. I have an editor who does the actual editing for me. This is our set-up at the production house -- I spend a few hours each week in front of these monitors (two computer monitors, and one output monitor). Most times, my editor already knows what kind of cuts I want, so that leaves me time to doodle in my journal.

Also on the table are some music CDs, the cordless phone, my celphone, my script, and a tube of glue. Ok, ok, the glue isn't part of my work -- it's part of my journaling haha. I had my journal stuff out during the edit.

I was having a really bad day that day, having gotten news that put me in a bit of trouble. I was sliding down to depression (I use the term non-clinically), so I sketched. Concentrating on the lines -- that's how I draw, I literally look at one line at a time -- helped me considerably, and calmed me some.

I made two lists on the upper page -- the right one is of things that were causing me grief that day and the day before. For a long time that list was the only list on the page. Then, I went out with some friends to get a bit of cheer, and I thought it best to make a happy list, too (the one on the left).

I can be such a whiner when things go wrong. I make an effort, though, to remember the good things I have. And, then, I go whine some more. =P
