the mysterious benedict society

Mowing down my book pile steadily, I finished Frank Beddor's Seeing Redd last Friday and started right away on The Mysterious Benedict Society. I've been eyeing this book for months; picking it up at the bookstore, walking around with it for half an hour only to return it on the shelf.  I finally got it last November 11.

So far, it's been lots of fun! The colorful cast of characters and the adventures they get into make for a hilarious and exciting read -- Reynie the sharp and sensible, shy Sticky with an encyclopedic brain, the energetic and  marvelously inventive Kate, and Constance Contraire -- who is constantly contrary to everything.   And they are brought together by a narcoleptic genius who has discovered an evil plot against humankind.  Dundundunduuuuun.  I'm not even halfway through it yet, but I have high hopes for it to make my favorite reads list this year.

Puzzles, problems, clues, missions, and codes! Fun fun.  I'm already thinking of the next Benedict Society book:  The Mysterious Benedict Society and The Perilous Journey!  I've been seeing it in the bookstores.  Can't wait!
