hacking the holga

I love Petrie my Lomo LCA. But lately I've been devoting a bit of time to Tilda, my Holga.

I haven't been using the Holga as much as the LCA because it's not as convenient. It uses 120 film and not a lot of places sell it or process it. So you really have to go out of your way to get your shots done.

But, I really love the look of Holga shots. I know that, as in every kind of photography, that it's more of the shooter than the shooting tool. It's how you use the camera's quirks that make the photo. So, I figured it's time I devoted some energy to the Holga.

Timing couldn't have been more perfect for lomomanila's activity: The Holga Witch Project. Hehe. It's a late Halloween activity which took place today. We asked some of our friends to model for us and we all went around UP to take shots.

It was a purely toy camera affair. Everyone was prepared to glare at whoever brings a digital camera. Hehe. I was soooo tempted to sneak mine in but thought better of it. Besides, I didn't want to have to lug around a heavy (with guilt) bag.

My 5 and Up kid Chiyomi joined the shoot as one of the models. So did Karen's boyfriend's daughter. They were the only kids in the shoot, although Chiyomi's hardly a kid anymore at 20. But, you wouldn't be able to tell with how she looks :) The other kid thought Chiyomi was only 12!

I can't wait to get my film processed. I have to go all the way to Makati to have it done. And I hope my shots are worth all that trouble!

I'll just have to wait and see.

I'm going to push for our next activity to be the one proposed by whitemumu. He said he and another member are thinking of holding a workshop on processing film.

Maybe it's time I did my own bw processing. Here's hoping to get this organized soon.

hi ian! the shoot was fun! hehe! sasali na nga ako sa mga susunod na shoot. i feel bad for not joining the past events, considering i've had a lomo since 2003 =/ dibale sasali na talaga ako next time!

"the god of small things" is nice, pero yun nga, it's really slooow at the beginning. it gets better once you reach the middle part. and then you'll want to read the first part again after reading the entire book. hehe. you'll appreciate it better on the 2nd reading. =)

'just finished the subtle knife, astig siya!! more exciting than the first. i'm getting the third book soon.

i haven't gotten a copy of stardust yet! pero sige, bili na rin ako. sana may oras pa ako basahin, pasukan na this week x_x

btw, where do you have your pics scanned? is it better to have it done at professional studios(where they scan the negatives)?

anna: yup! i was there! i realized that that was you towards the end of the shoot na lang ata, when i heard bong mention your name. hehe. next activity, i'll be sure to say hello!

lianne: usually, i just scan my prints at home. but recently, i just got into the habit of having the negatives scanned right after i have them processed.

for color negatives which can be done anywhere, i ask the lab to process and then save to CD straight. no more prints.

i haven't had any bw rolls processed recently, but i assume that the place that can process bw can also scan the negatives. so if you're going to wells fuji to have your rolls processed, malamang ok na rin na dun magpa-scan.

i'm talking about 135 film lang.

as for 120 -- i think fuji wells also has negative scanning for 120. but i'm not sure how much it costs. in megamall, they also scan 120, but 40pesos per frame!

i've been hearing the DPI in Shaw offers negative scanning also. ok din price nila for 120.

let me know if you're going to wells ha! =)
