During the height of my obsession with The Zombies (right before their concert here), I spent a lot of my internet time googling them and found interesting stuff, like French covers of Zombies songs by French60s group Les Sultans (thanks to drugburn's blog). These tracks then led me to search for more French 60s stuff -- some are covers of popular english 60s songs (by The Kinks, The Beatles, etc). Some are straight up French pop stuff.
My favorite is Petula Clark's "Un Jeune Homme Bien", a cover of The Kinks' "A Well-Respected Man." I found them easy to like because I'm familiar with the originals. Plus, I really like the quality of the recordings -- there's so much heat in them. Maybe it's because of the audio quality itself -- kinda unpolished and almost like a grainy photograph? And the voices, sound so alien but familiar.
Interesting stuff you find on the net once in a while =)
Lemme share a few.
