new journal

No gimik on this Friday night. I didn't go to the game this afternoon (and I missed Xtn's birthday inuman).
Instead of going out, I opted to stay home and make a new journal! I made it for my friend who wasn't too keen on the peach-paged one I made before this.
For this black blank book, I used eggshell drawing paper for the pages. Since eggshell paper is a lot thicker than what I'm used to binding, I thought maybe my usual binding style won't hold so well. I took this as an opportunity to try something new.
I've been very attracted to coptic binding -- I like that the spine is exposed -- so I thought to give it a shot. I found instructions on how to do the coptic binding here.
For the cover, I used illustration board covered with black handmade paper (from the stash I've had for more than 5 years! Thank you, Data!). The thread I used was regular black crochet thread.
On hindsight, I'm guessing I could've done better by using thicker string, to accentuate the loops in the stitching.
I got a strip of elastic and sewed the ends to make a loop. It keeps the journal closed.
This project turned out pretty well! I'm going to make another one for my friend flyderman.
